Mohamad Rashid College, which was originally known as the First Residence College, was built on the site of Serdang estate by Macmillan And Company. As early as history, the First Residence College consists of seven residential blocks. These blocks are named after several types of timber trees namely Kemuning, Resak, Cengal, Kempas, Merbau, and Meranti (student dorm) and International blocks. In addition, Mohamad Rashid College also has a college quartile block. Nevertheless, Mohamad Rashid College then only consists of five residential blocks namely Resak, Kempas, Kemuning, Merbau and Cengal. Mohamad Rashid College is the longest-lived college in the campus of Universiti Putra Malaysia and has expanded with the College of Agriculture and subsequently Universiti Pertanian Malaysia. Therefore, it is not surprising if the college is often associated with certain figures. Among them, Dr. Haji Mohamad Rashid Ahmad (Teacher Rashid), Tan Sri Dato 'Dr. Nayan Ariffin, Tan Sri Ani Arope, Tan Sri Rashdan Baba, Prof. Dato 'Dr. Ir. Mohd Zohardie Bardaie, Prof. Dr. Rahim Md. Sail, Prof. Madya Dato 'Dr. Idris Abdol, Prof. Dr. Ghizan Salleh, Prof. Dato 'Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah, Prof. Dr. Azali Bin Mohamed and many other personalities of the First Residence at that time. In 1975, part of the college was established as a clinic, the Agricultural College Association Office and the Student Association Office (CAMSU). At one point, most college occupants consisted of diploma and degree students only but the beginning of the 1987/1988 session of most KMR occupants comprised of Matriculation students covering 95 percent of the population.
The First Residence College was renamed to Cikgu Rashid's Residence College officially on August 14, 1988. Since the college system was introduced in UPM in early 1995, the name of the college has been changed to Kolej Cikgu Rashid. Cikgu Rashid College was once again renamed to Kolej Mohamad Rashid from May 1995 in line with the corporate image. Since then, Mohamad Rashid College has been known as KMR among university students. To provide Mohamad Rashid College students with better facilities, Mohamad Rashid College is currently located at Blocks P1 and P2, Serumpun College.
